You all might be interested in and entertained by my latest blog titled "WOW Top 30 Count-up". When I was a teen, every week I'd listen to the American Top 40 Countdown and keep track of all the songs. I figured, using the WOW Hits 2008 CD, I'd write my own imaginary countdown show. Enjoy!

I call it a "count-up" because the terminology of these shows seems to point that way as Number 1 is considered to be the Top. Even the name "Top whatever" suggests heading up, not down.

I'm glad to see that there are "massive numbers" of music lovers out there. I think music is the best! think about it, one song can set your mood for the whole day, it can make you happy or sad, joyous or repentful, whatever your feeling can come from a song not to mention a a whole CD, shoot a person can can be humming a whole CD for the whole day at work or school and time will just fly and you'll be happy and your friends/coworkers will be "wondering what you got" Thats why I like the Christian music as opposed to most secular music, with Christian music I know what message is coming across.

Music rocks- the louder the better in my book- if you think it's too loud-> put some ear plugs in

I just joined this group because I love to talk about music. And as you can see by this post, sometimes I have alot to say. LOL.

My occupation is a Customer Service Rep for a medical insurance call center. So what I know about the recording industry could fit on the tiniest of pin heads. However, my knowledge of what I like as a recorded music consumer spans my entire lifetime of 48 yrs.

I like a variety of styles within a CD. Variety within a CD shows the artist is not a one-trick pony. And there is plenty of variety on the “Portable Sounds” CD. There’s everything from reggae, to hip hop, to rap, to even grunge rock! This CD is great with the exception of how many times that I have to adjust the volume while listening. And that is where my questions come in.

Is there any standard or process to make sure all tracks of a CD are recorded at the same sound level? How about the same level across different CDs?

I have noticed some sound level variations between different tracks. A good example of this starts with track 10, and continues through the rest of the CD. Track 10, “All In (Letting Go)” is what I consider to be the normal sound level for this CD. Then the recorded sound level is considerably lower during the “Mr. Talkbox” skit, then normal during track 11, then lower during the reggae styled track 12 (I find that reggae songs are usually quiet.) then normal during track 13. With each variance, I find myself having to adjust the volume up in order to hear the quiet tracks, the nback down so I don't get my eardrums blown ut by the normal level tracks. In my opinion, the listener should not have to make that many volume adjustments.

Has anyone else noticed this sound level variance?
